Abstract
Authoritarian and dictatorial regimes stubbornly pursue the ,,regimentation” of young people, educating them to transform them into ,,new people”, devoted to the regime, the single party (if it exists) and the supreme leader.
In August 1946, the National Federation of Democratic Youth of Romania (FNTDR) was founded, imitating the model of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (FMTD), established – during October 1945 – by the Soviet Union, precisely to take over some of the functions of KIM.
Youth organization of the Ploughmen's Front (established in Deva, in January 1933, under the leadership of Petru Groza, ,,with the aim of mobilizing the peasant masses to fight to defend their rights and freedoms”), the Village Youth resisted until almost the self-dissolution of this political formation, at the beginning of 1953.
Regimed into organizations with various names, the youth was seen as a segment of the population that could easily be ,,shaped” and educated ,,in the spirit of victorious socialism” by the Romanian Workers'Party and its central leadership.
In a first phase, at least in 1948, the Soviet model was taken over and slightly adapted, the U.S.S.R. being considered, for approximately a decade (1948-1958), the ,,guiding beacon” for the Romanian People's Republic on its path to building a ,,better and more just” comunist society.
