Abstract
The establishment of the Technical Museum of Banat was an ideal spread within the circle of Banat intellectuals since the interwar period. This desideratum was not abandoned with the change of the political regime in Romania, therefore a laborious plan was made in order to establish a technical museum in Timișoara. Through this article, we want to bring to light the project for establishing the Technical Museum of Banat, made between 1969-1971, discovered within the Timiș County Service of the National Archives. Within the plan associated with the establishment of the technical museum were highlighted: the reasons for its establishment; the space related to the new museum; the funds intended for the acquisition of exhibits and the operation of the institution; the number of specialized and administrative positions that were to be enclosed in the museum institution and the detailed theme of the basic exhibitions. This article's main source of documentation is archival information, which is corroborated by information from the press of that time and the specialized bibliography. One of the main merits of the project to establish the Technical Museum of Banat was due to the success of gathering around a common goal the representatives of the most important cultural organizations in Timișoara, to whom was added a good part of the industrial enterprises, thus proving the ability of the Timișoara intelligentsia to accomplish the plan of a museum institution of such amplitude. At the same time, through this project, an interwar initiative that is absolutely necessary for Banat is being resumed, the region being known for its long-standing tradition in the technical and industrial fields.
