Abstract

This article presents the relationship between museum objects and the memory of some noble families from the historical Banat in the period 1779-1919. After the end of the First World War, the Banat pronvince was divided between the Kingdom of Romania, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and the Kingdom of Hungary. The fate of the cultural assets from the noble residences existing on the territory of the historical Banat was marked by the two World Wars, the exodus of the former owners after the Treaty of Trianon of June 4, 1920 and the agrarian reform of 1921, and subsequently by the installation of communist regimes in Romania, Hungary and Yugoslavia. The National Museum of Banat in Timișoara preserves portraits (paintings, graphic works, sculptures), furniture, objects of ceramics, glass and metals, books, documents, noble diplomas, medals, letters, photographs and historical textiles, which are illustrative of the structure of the nobility in the Banat province as an integral part of the nobility in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
