Abstract

The theater posters provide valuable information about the theater and the actors who worked in it, but also about the norms of behavior, characteristic of the society at that time. Unfortunately, the collections of the National Museum of Banat do not contain compact collections of posters from the pre-war period, concerning theatrical performances in Timișoara. The relatively few and heterogeneous posters preserved, in terms of chronology and language (German, Romanian, and Hungarian) in which they were written, provide interesting information about the theatrical activity in Timișoara. The oldest pre-war theater poster preserved in the museum's collections, dates from 1788 and the newest from 1911. In addition to the information about the poster and the play it presented, I have also tried to capture aspects of the history of Timisoara’s theater during the period in which these posters were produced.
